The course consists of 12 modules. Each one includes;
1) A lecture – This will contain subjects relating directly to;
- The Pilates Method
- Anatomy
- Physiology
- Movement
- Teaching skills
2) Repertoire – Each module will introduce exercises either on the mat and, or the classical Pilates equipment including the;
- Reformer
- Cadillac
- Wunda Chair
- Spine Corrector
- Ladder Barrel
- Auxiliary Equipment
3) Homework projects – To be completed at the end of each module for presentation.
4) Suggested Reading Material – This includes a list of relevant books or essays that will not only enhance and deepen the student’s knowledge but also be valuable research material. It is by no means a comprehensive list and students are encouraged to source reading materials for themselves.
5) Examinations – To be written mid course, consisting of;
- Written theory paper
- Short practical exam
Students will also be required to complete;
- A final written theory exam
- A final practical exam
- A practical teaching exam
- A case study, to be written and presented to an audience
Course Requirements
Pre-course Requirements
- A minimum of 6 months of Pilates sessions on a regular weekly basis
- Interview with applicant
- Completed application form
- Paid up application fee of R250
Course Requirements
- Attendance of all modules
- Attendance of all practical classes
- Attendance of a minimum of 4 clinics
- Completion of all assignments
- Completion of all exams and case studies
- Full Comprehensive Course: 75 hours of observation
- Mat Course: 60 hours of observation
- 40 hours of teaching practice – fully comprehensive course
- 30 hours of teaching practice – mat course
